Engine Temp
Engine Temp
I got a simple roblem but I want to bounce it off everyone here for sure!
My truck is running abit on the high side for temp (needle width over 190*) But there is a bit more to this. It will start out at a needle width below. It like the thermostat will stick and it will rise up to the needle width over 190* and release back to the lower temp. But later on (5-10 miles) it will stay high.
Current mileage 42,195
Antifreeze changed - 36,000
Radiators (all) are cleaned once a week - high pressure wash.
Fan belts are clean and good
I can hear the fan cycle (clutched and unclutched)
I figure it's going to be a thermostat...

I just made a 4200 mile trip through the Rockies and noticed that mine would cycle up and down. It would start out at 190 then go up a little then down a little. I, too, can hear the fan cycle on and off.
Yeah.. But this has never done this before... It was always uder 190* and I'm not towing anything.
Runs on the highside empty and in 10 miles! Not towing, no real bombing yet!
It has never done that last year in a 450 mile trip!
What bothers me is if I need to tow something (like my jeep) and go over the grade... I don't think its going to make it now!
It's a problem that is currently small and detected.

I agree with mouse. I had to keep it under 60mph while towing my travel trailer last summer or risk overheating the engine. I changed the thermostate and haven't been above 190 since -- no matter what speed I'm hauling at
