engine shut down
engine shut down
hello to everyone,
i have followed this sight for a while , thanks for all of the great info.
this is my first post because up till now the info from this sight has kept me running over the years.
my truck is a 1999 Ram 2500, auto, 87,000 miles
the problem i am having is that my truck engine dies after running for a while, presumably after engine and compartment have warmed up.
it has happend while at a stop and while advancing down the road.
after everything cools off, a few hours, the engine starts right back up.
i brought it to local mechanic and diagnosis was that there were no codes but when he finally got the engine to die, the ECM was not communicating as it should with the other parts of the sytem.
i then brought it to the local dealer mechanic for a second opinion, they have had it for three days and cannot get it to show the symptoms described.
does any of this sound familiar to anyone.
thanks, woof

If there are NO CODES and fuel supply pressure is good, problem is probably a defective injection pump. A way to confirm this is to duplicate the hard start condition, then (with the engine not running) cool the injection pump with a large quantity of water (e.g. use a garden hose). If the engine start better after cooling the injection pump, the pump needs to be replaced
bigiron70, thank you for the reply.
truck finally showed symptoms for the dealer to diagnose. threw the code
P0606. had to replace the ECM.
So far so good.
the mechanic commented to me about changing the transfer pump while he had the truck. i declined the offer and ordered an air dog 100 pump instead.
looking forward to installing and running the air dog and hoping to not have to deal with a failed ECM ever again. that was an expensive problem to remedy.
