RoadDawg, for change intervals just look at your manual......you really cant change your oil enough but 3000 miles is wasteful and unecessary. Also, dont listen to you dealer.....you can get all your questions answered correctly right here.

I've been running a particular brand of synthetic (who's name will remain nameless to avoid the start of an oil war) and when Scheids tore it down this week at 147000 miles, they said it was the cleanest engine that had seen yet. They tore it down because some dumb (donkey) tried to pull a big hill too fast and the t-stat stuck and cooked number six piston. The bearings had no wear and the engine was in excellent shape inside and out (as normally would be expected for an engine with low mileage like this). I ran the second oil change for 50,000 miles also.
Any of the oils previously mentioned will give you the same service if you change them properly. Just look for the right rating and go for it.

Thats a good point....a lot of people claim that the synthetics just arent worth the money. But the truth is that they keep your engine super clean, are much more resistant to viscocity breakdown and perform substantially better in the winter.
