engine knock

engine knock

just started my truck and was goin to the post office right down the road and half way there the engine started to knock really bad. i wasnt even driving fast or hard, then calack clack clack. it goes with the RPMs and is really loud. Please HELP, im taking the valve cover off now to see if theres anything wrong, i also just put a banks intake manifold on i got from here. i also got a video/ sound i will up load in a little bit.

Sounds bad. I wouldn't be driving it anymore. Oil pressure looked good. maybe an injector gone south??? Is your oil level way past the full mark?

I found the problem. Its bad, a peice of the intake manifold broke off and got sucked into the valves.



How much wil this cost to work on and repair by a shop. Roughly?

Yikes, depends on what broke and if the piece made it through the cylinder and out the exhaust and met the turbo. The only thing to do is pull the head and find out.

Thanks, I think it got stuck on the vavle, cause it sounds like its stuck open.

If its stuck open, then the piston would close it. I've heard there is almost no clearance between the valve and the piston.

Huh, well i not sure exectly what is happening, but i know that it will be sitting on the side of the road for a while till i get money to fix it. Im also gonna sell it when its fixed and get a '98 12v again.

it looks like the intake heater bolts were over tightened...aluminum will break before the bolts will.....

That looks like the head. Its Not aluminum. More than likely your gonna have to pull it...

cast iron will break easy also...still, it looks like the intake heater bolts were over tightened.

Yah, im already taking the truck apart, got the front section off today, and the engine is comin out tomarrow. but it will be cleaned before i open it up.

Is that piece that broke part of the block or is it replaceable?
