I just bought 2001.5 ram 2500 5.9 HO, I checked the block and it is stamped 55 so I assume that I will have no problems like the 53 block does?

 

I've not heard of any cracking problems except with the 53's.

 

Recently, there was a post on TDR that referred to a cracked 55. The guy said it cracked in the same place as a 53 ... coincidence? I posted the link in another thread, but here it is, if you're interested.

Yup, read the same post about the 55 cracking. I have also heard of previous blocks before 53 that have cracked. These were in other applications other than dodge trucks but still cummins engines. The school I work for will definetly positivly not buy a bus with a cummins motor in it. I didn't understand why a few years ago when they stated it. Now I know why after reading these threads about 53 blocks. I really don't think anyone is immune, just some are more unlucky.

 

A lot of the 53's ended up in other places like motorhomes, buses, delivery trucks, etc. Same problems in those as well.
