possible causes
AC NOISE ACROSS LIFT PUMP
DTC P0336 PRESENT
WIRING AND CONNECTORS
FUEL INJECTION PUMP STATIC TIMING
FUEL SYNC SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN
FUEL SYNC SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
Measure the AC noise on the battery voltage going to the ECM.
Is AC voltage above 25mVrms?
Yes ® Replace the lift pump due to excessive AC noise.
Ignition on, engine not running.
With the DRBIIIt, read DTCs.
Is DTC P0336 present?
Yes ® Refer to symptom P0336-CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the ECM harness connector.
Disconnect the VP44 harness connector.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Measure the resistance of the Fuel Sync Signal circuit between the VP44 connector
and the ECM harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes ® Go To 7
No ® Repair the open Fuel Sync Signal circuit
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the ECM harness connector.
Disconnect the VP44 harness connector.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Measure the resistance of the Fuel Sync Signal circuit to ground.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes ® Repair the Fuel Sync Signal circuit shorted to ground.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5 (DIESEL).
No ® Replace the ECM.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5 (DI
