So sure enough, I lost my VP44 last month. After reading several posts about an eight year warranty, and successful claims to Daimler Chrysler, I started assembling my documents to write my letter. I was pretty sure that I could write a compelling argument that I should be reimbursed, then I noticed:
My VP44 failed 8 years and 3 days after purchase... How do they do that, is there a timer in these things? Arrggh, that is frustrating and I just had to vent to people who would understand.

i wish i would have knew about this 2yrs ago.
While I can't verify the 8 year warranty, but after reading several posts about it, I did open my warranty book, and it states that the Cummins warranty is good for 5 years, and begins when the 3 yr / 36k mile warranty ends. I searched around this site, and google, and there are at least a few people who have received refunds for VP44 replacements after the 3 year warranty has expired.
Most of those threads described the hoops they had to jump through, but for $2000, I would spend a few hours writing a tight letter and assembling copies of all the documents.

A single TDR member, faced with a $3000+ replacement of VP44 & transfer pump, has replied to my original warranty thread stating "when I picked up th truck at the dealer, they agreed 100% that the engine warranty covers 8yrs/136,000m thanks to all before me that took the time to do their homework". I think I read of one other success somewhere on the TDR site.

My pitch was going to be positive, and that I was a "dodge guy" and I wanted to continue being one. I love this truck, but this repair falls well within the intent and letter of the warranty.
I was going to include a photocopy of 2.6 from the book, my sales invoice, my receipts from a previous LP, and a pressure gauge, and the VP44 repair.
I was going to explain that I thought that I had done everything right, and even gone beyond by getting the pressure gauge just to protect the VP44.
Finally, I would add that I don't think a $2000 repair should be part of scheduled maintenance.. I fulfilled all of my obligations, now they need to. I have documentation showing that they have reimbursed other owners in similar circumstances, and they should do the same with me.

I suggest you read Code of Federal Regulations, Title 16, Part 701. Read it completely. Pay particular attention to §701.3a(1) through §701.3a(4)
