egt's questions

Iam sure someone has posted about this before but i only got a few min before i crash out for the night so ill ask instead of trolling post for a hour or so.

so here is the truck specs 01 2500 4x4 24v 47re auto, the only mods are afe cold air intake, blade runner intake elbow, 4 inch exhaust ,autometer 3 guage piller cluster (pryo is after the turbo in the down pipe)

My question is what is the normally egt temp for my rig to be at in od.
What is the max temp you want the egts to reach before damage occurs.

The reason i ask is now that the weather is getting warmer it seems that as soon as i hit od and about 10 lbs of boost my egts start to climb past norm (it ussally hovers around the 600 mark) now it shoots to 800+ and iam worried about well bad things happening like things melting and such. This happens on my comute to work and back to home which is about a ten min trip and i know some one is going to ask what the temp is outside so around plus 25 (iam candain).

Ive been letting off the throttle to let the egts go down but with the weather only getting warmer iam going to need to get this dealt with , since i plan on making longer drives in the summer

sorry for the long post, all help and suggustions appriecated

to get better responses you should either a) add another pyro pre-turrbo - OR - b) move your post-turbo pyro to pre-turbo.

it is more important to monitor pre-turbo that post-turbo.

i don't have experience with post-turbo temps, so can't help you out in that regard. very few on here monitor post-turbo temps . . .

I wouldn't worry at all about 800. That's nice and kewl! I'd start getting concerned around 1200.

800 post turbo could be 1200 pre turbo, move the probe pre turbo to be sure.

Yeah, I think you'll find that pre-turbo is where you'll find the most info....

I don't know that it's possible to make 1200 with the OP's mods. Or to have enough drive pressure to spread 400 degrees. But I agree the best possible place for the probe would be preturbo.

I've hit 1150 degrees on my rig and all I have is a power puck, pre-turbo readings. So if he was loaded right he could get up there don't know if he could maintain it. Long enough grade with enough weight but with the automatic it'll downshift and spool the turbo and cool her.

I vote pre-turbo as well. Your wanting to know the temp of the heat hitting the turbo.
