EGT Temps and length
How long can you hold a warm egt? I am talking about towing through the mountains. First trip with the smart set on 5 i was hit 1200 and held it for about 2 mins but did let off of the throttle to keep the temp down what i would like to know is how hot can one go and how long can it be held?

1200 is fine for just about any period of time. It's when you start seeing higher temps that I be letting off of the thottle.

4" exhaust and BHAF can both drop your exhaust temps and up your HP. 4 inch exhaust can bring your horsepower up around 28 HP by itself. I went straight pipe. About $250 or so for the pipes so it is cheap horsepower and cuts temps.
You will see the increase in boost pressure when you do the change if you have a gauge. About 10 hp per lb psi boost kind of rule of thumb.

I forget what you use to modify the wastegate on your year turbo, whether it be a boost elbow or j-hook etc.. You could try to crank the boost up to around 30lbs to see if you get some additional cooling. Personally, I wouldn't worry about 1200 but if you can keep it cooler, then do.

1200ºF is the recommended max sustained EGT. You could do 1250ºF sustained, but I personally would play is safe and keep it to 1200ºF.
Besides, keeping reasonable EGT's and going a little slower up a grade is far cheaper than having your pistons do this (thanks to CaptainChrysler for the picture)

that says bad day all over it i wouldnt want that to happen to any one. Guess its time for 4inch exhaust and air intake. Will turning the smarty level down reduce temperatures?

It might, try it with just the fuel settings I believe even numbers are fuel only odd numbers are timing and fuel. Obviously if you take it back to stock your egt's will drop but so will your pulling power. I'd look into an exhaust and play with the smarty settings in the mean time. 1200* Pre turbo isn't bad though. I've hit 1350* pulling our TT in the Rockies (short bursts less than 20 seconds) last year, hopefully no problems but after my trans is fixed an exhaust is next.
Good luck.
Good luck.
