Depends where your pyro probe is post or pre turbo. I run pre turbo and I always try to keep it 1,200 or less. Aprox 1,350 degrees aluminum starts melting.

Do it right. You want to go pre turbo. Easy to do.

It's not the temperature that matters. It's the heat. So that means temp*time.

Do not sustain more than 1200 on a steady pull and you'll be fine forever. Keep the RPMs up and it will help.

This is pre-turbo pyrometer temp. Do not use a post-turbo location if *engine* health, not *turbo* health, is your concern (as it generally should be).

Well said Justin!

It's not how hot you get....it's how long you stay hot!

I've seen guys run 1800* at the 1/4 mile strip...... but only for 6-8 sec. This causes no problems.
I saw a melted piston on an 01 HO that pulled a heavy load for 4 hrs at 1200* egt. (65 mph, 6th gear, low rpm).

I always follow the 10 sec rule. Never over 1200* for more than 10 sec in a row. This is a little overly conservative but that's just who I am.
