Yeah, 1000*F does seem way too high given the brief amount of data you list.

Can you please give more details about which are present when you see this gauge reading?

Engine RPM, are you sitting still or driving, uphill, have you been pushing the go pedal pretty hard for those 15 minutes,... what do other gauges in your truck say? boost, engine coolant temp, etc..

Normal idling should be between 250 - 300*, driving at reasonable highway speed (say 60 - 70 MPH) on flat ground with no head wind and no load in the bed of the truck and not towing should be something like 600 - 750*. Going uphill under these same unloaded conditions should be on the order of 800 - 900*.

Re:egt normal temps!!

Whats the safest high temp. on a EGT gauge when pulling a fiver of 7000 lbs. My gauge is in the post position just off the turbo. Mine runs the same temps as Tom Golden said it should, but haven't pulled with gauge in. We are leaving this Sat. for a trip to Ariz. Was wondering what temp I should not run up too. Thanks

Re:egt normal temps!!

Northern, check and see if your EGT probe is touching the bottom of the exhaust manifold. It should be in the middle of the tube, not touching the bottom or too close to the top. That will cause similar results as you describe.
Waam-If you're running post-turbo, you should be a good bit lower than those numbers. Probably 300-400 degrees at the top end. The "limit" pre is around 1250, so you should be about 800-900 as a good # to watch out for.
