EGT discuss

My rig is in my sig line, just got the Edge J w/ A installed and the EGT's seem high?

What is an acceptable peak EGT on a short burst (I see over 1300º on level 5) what is an acceptable sustained EGT while loaded/towing? I'm around 900-1000º on level 2 towing about 7K up a 6% grade.

I searched and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Other than what's listed in my sig, my truck is stock as far as I know. I do have a new IP and Carter LP installed prior to my purchase

Thanks

I believe you don't want sustained temps over 1250... Towing, I'm usually running right around 900-1000..

Thanks

So more fuel = higher EGT's?, but more fuel = more power? I'm not buildin a sled puller so I want economy and power when I need it as well as longevity.

sustained temp of 1350* will not hurt it but do not go higher. the hpcr was designed to handle 1500*

What EGT's are safe depends on where the temp probe is, pre-turbo or post turbo. If your probe is pre-turbo, the above temps are a good guideline. If the probe is post-turbo, you need to look for temps that run 300-400 degrees lower. That is, 950-1000 degrees is close to the upper limit.

Good point, mine is pre-turbo. I was told that teh pistons are aluminum and we all know aluminum melts at 1200° F, therefore I need to keep the EGT's below that.

What exhaust are you running? 4" or 5"? Is it a cat back or a turbo back? The Banks Monster is a 5" isn't it? I just saw it in your sig.

I have a 4" system from Banks, it says Banks Monster on the straight through muffler, it is also a turbo back, my truck is non catalyst from the factory.
