Info on 03's, let's discuss the truck I'm looking at

Hi,

I'm looking at an 03 3500 quad cab 2wd CTD/6speed. It's a laramie, black/graphite.

Bone stock 6x,xxx miles, forgot.

I understand the 03's have 235hp. But they get better gas milage, but how much better and is it worth the loss in HP. I think it might be but I'm not sure.

My plans would be exhaust/intake, and a mild box that might give it better fuel economy.

Going to offer him trade in on it which is like $15,000.. It still has the stock tires and needs a new rear bumper and one of the bed rails has some minor damage. I also think the front bumper might have rubbed something, nothing major and probably won't fix any of that(besides buffing on it) except new tires and a ranchhand in the rear.

Sound good? I'd hope for over 20mpg hwy is this realistic at 75mph?

Thanks for the quick response.

I have a really nice 04 Hemi 1500 reg cab sport that I really like, but i'm about to start working on some land my family owns 3 days a week getting some drainage put in and building a road.. Probably some land clearing too...

Anyway, I figure now is as good as any time to get into a truck like this, besides the guy who owns it is my friend's dad. I've actually been window shopping these for awhile now and think this might be a good deal.

I'm positive it isn't the one with the higher torque output.. Because he was @%$#%$% about it... and saying you could get it reprogrammed or something to make it like the one with more power.

Maybe it's a 5 speed.

I thought the 6 speed was ho also. Did not even think about that before. Good job catching that.

Either way I consider that a good deal. Exspecially if it is a larame and in good condition.

The six speed is the HO in the '03. Autos and 5 speed for the SO.

If your going to put a box on I wouldn't worry about which engine it has. There is however a sticker on the valve cover with the rating. 20mpg at 75mph would be realistic, I hovered right around there with stock tires. Sounds like a good deal.

Well, how does the 5 speed hold up? Going to sell my 1500 that is paid off and just payoff the remaining balance on the truck.. It will be paid off and driven for a couple years daily and worked hard. Plan is to keep it and get a Lux car for a daily in a couple years.

20mpg @ 75mph isn't impossible with the manual equipped 2wd trucks under the right conditions. That's what I get.

If it's an SO it may be 250hp or 235hp if it's a Cali model. I got up to 24mpg on my old 03 SO if conditions were right. 20 mpg was my worst case mileage on the hwy...
