Question Egt

Ever since I bought something from 4wheel Parts, I have been getting this mag called Off-Road Adventures. The latest copy has the specs for a lot of Diesel engines. One of the specs from mine is a little confusing. It says the the max EGT is 1250 degrees and the sustained temp is 1050 degrees. Does this mean that I shouldn't run over 1050 degrees for sustained periods? On my trip to Wyoming last month I ran 1200 degrees for hours! It says the source of the data was from manufacturers literature.

Sounds like post turbo temps.
Usually, post turbo is about 300 degrees less than pre turbo.

Add 300 to those numbers.

My question is still...

Will 1200 degrees, sustained temperature, pre-turbo, hurt my motor?

I sure hope not!

1250 sustained pre turbo is fine. It's the cummins recommended safety point. You can do quick bursts to 1500. But only for a couple of seconds.
