ECM & PCM Swap for NV 5600 Conversion?
ECM & PCM Swap for NV 5600 Conversion?
I am almost ready to do my NV 5600 Conversion in my 01.5 CTD and I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about it. I love my Cummins but absolutely hate my 47RE. I have an 01 Ford Powerstroke Dually that is a 6 speed manual that I enjoy driving much more than my automatic. I like to be the one who decides which gear my truck should be in. I can promise you that I will NEVER buy another truck without a manual again. According to my Diesel Power Magazines, Dodge is the only one offers a manual trans. at this point and if they stop offering them, when the time comes to buy a new diesel I guess I will be doing another conversion on a brand new truck.
Anyhow, I have a 2002 CTD 6 speed manual donor truck and I am wondering if anyone knows if I will have to use the PCM and or ECM off of the 2002 when I do my conversion? I thought I read here somewhere, but cannot find it, where some of you folks who did the conversion had to replace one or both of these because your truck did not run correctly. Also, would the PCM & ECM be as simple as unplugging the 2001's and plugging in the 2002's or is there more to it than that?

You should be able to plug and play. Sometimes the computers won't communicate with each other if the vins don't match. you may have to change out the body computer as well. I have one that the dealer flash killed my ECM. I replaced it with one from another truck and it runs like a top, but my Hypertech tuner won't communicate with them. But heck , it runs great so who cares!
You should be fine. my son has one of those dealer type handhelds and he was able to reprogram mine for tire size when i went bigger than stock. if you need to go that route go to an independent shop.
