NV 5600 conversion?
I have a question that may have been discussed already but I was wondering if the nv5600 can be replaced by what is running in the newer trucks. I know the 5600 parts are hard to come by and they have had there share of problems. I looked at a 2001 3500 dodge 6sp that didn't have 4th gear. Is it easier to swap to a newer trans (if possible) or repair the stocker. Thanks for any info.

The G56's are expensive and not as strong. They shift sweet if your not going to be playing hard. I just put a rebuilt one in that cost as much as rebuilding a NV5600. Stoopid Germans.
Ebay actually is a good place to get some pricing guestimates.

Fuller 6 Speed Swap
I'm just finally wrapping up the installation of a Fuller FSO6406A transmission to replace the dreaded NV5600 issues. Three (3) failures and only 112,000 miles.
I have pictures and parts required to do the change-over on my web site http://http:...600.htm. My total cost so far is under $2,000 because I've provided my own labor. Basically it is a remove and replace operation with the exception of the fabrication of the support bracket for the transmission, hydraulic slave cylinder and drive shaft modification.
Fuller parts are cheap and plentiful and you can rebuild it yourself if you have to and you have a 14" clutch too.

5600 are not junk, people misconception is scary sometimes.
They are also very available. I have a large plant nearby with 6 on the shelves, www.zbag.com, $ 2900 for a complete rebuilt and warrantied.
The GM version is same as Dodge since New Venture was a joint venture between the 2.
This discussion will go on forever since there are 2 biased parts. It's like discussing 12V vs 24V, Ford vs Dodge vs Chevy, etc.
The newer G56 is not as strong as the NV5600

Thumper, you are wrong again. I am just a hauler and I use my truck a lot, put a lot of miles on them. I am mentioning the Zbag name since I was impressed from the setup and business, I juts bought a transmission from them and an axle for a farm truck.
I feel $ 2900 for a rebuilt NV5600 is quite a good deal, especially since they do the work, and I am passing the knowledge around. If you don't like it that's your business, but don't accuse others, as you can see again the facts are against you..
As I said the discussion about NV5600s will go on forever, you have your opinion, I have mine, but please don't step on my toes.

I see you talking...I see your link or advertisement...Me thinks there is link there.
"Everyone else " knows the NV stuff and the G stuff are crap... I do not know why your guys would not know..being they have a warehouse full of stuff to sell. LOL The fact that those transmissions have run out of parts in the past speaks for it self! It does in fact need a warehouse some where to support them.
Most "real" Trk trannies will go over the million mile mark B4 TBO.
That's what I know...not sure as to what you know as your EXP as only a driver may have varied.
Hay, not mad Ya , Just calls em as I sees em.
If you were to post a survey here about where those tranns rate you will learn what I already know.
thanx

I think everybody can see you talk, but not the walk. If there were lack of parts, how come they have them rebuilt and ready to install ?
Where do you get your info ? You've been reading too much from business thar are not in business anymore, I wonder why....
How many miles on your Mercedes ? We'll see in few years what happens to it.
