Will an ecm out of an 01 work in a 98.5 model?

 

What transmissions are in the trucks?

Both the same, no problem.

I forget now...the auto will work in the stick, but not the other way>>>???

 

I thought they interchange no matter what tranny is in the truck. Since it is the PCM (dodge computer) that controls transmission function, not the ECM (cummins computer).

 

Does it matter if one is a HO motor and the other is a SO motor?? Just wondering...

I think it will matter as in HO or SO and if its a fed or cali truck as well. If anyone can trace the numbers on an ECM I have a spare but dont remember what its from. I THINK its a 02 6-speed.

 

It won't work. The Auto will work in the 5 speed, but not the other way around! At least that was my experience with a MAD Catcher ECM I had.... 02 auto worked in an 01, 5 speed, but the 01 ECM would not operate the 02 auto tranny. Started fine, but no go when put in gear!

Different electronics in the 98.5...and I don't think either would work.... kind of like the EZ's. But just a guess?
