drive shaft question

i was walking around my truck this morning and noticed that i had oil spots al over my tailgate and fenders so i crawled under the truck adn noticed oil splashed everywhere, adn not like dripping from parts just made things wet looking, i noticed that where the yoke comes out from the transfer case theres a lot of oil being flung into the under side of the cab. is this normal ?? i noticed it when i bought the truck and even my 1/2 ton chevy 4x4 had the same issue and it had an auto tranny and my dodge is got the 6-spd, ive never had any trouble with tranny issues and every time i get an oil cahnge i have teh boxes checked front to back and everytiime they check out full.

So is it engine oil or tranny fluid? Some grease flung on the underside of the cab is normal I believe. Check all your fluid levels and work your way from the back forward to try to pinpoint when the leak residue starts....

My trucks are dry - that's how they are supposed to be. Any fluids not contained within their respective containers constitute a leak. May be small, may be large. May not be much to worry about, may signal impending disaster.

You need to identify and classify the leak.

I'd venture a WAG it's coming from the draft tube and you're making oil due to an injector issue.

Just a WAG, based on the description of your findings (splashed up on the tailgate). They will make an amazingly huge mess going down the road if the crankcase gets full enough. Keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge.

my rear transfer case seal has had to be changed a couple times. You ought to be able to see how far forward the leak starts, not likely the fluid is moving forward going down the road! figure out if it's atf or engine oil or diesel fuel first...

what is a WAG??

and i havent seen any signs of making oil, the truck seems to run the same everyday, but i do have to say that there are some days that it seems just doggy and my egts run higher than usual but im not sure. the truck had this issue when i bought it and the engine, t-case, and diff-cases always are checked when i get my oil changed and they always check out full and never have been low.
