Dodge cummins bigger injectors

Hi I own a 2001 cummins 24v auto. All stock except 4in straight pipe bro exhaust. I would like to add a little power and increase mpg's with out needing a new tranny an so on. I was wondering in 50 or 75hp injectors would be fine an not blow a tranny? Thanks

Stock trans? At least on my 99 the trans couldn't handle the engine with NO mods.
Seems like the TC, Flex plate, some accumulators and something else I can't remember were undersized right out of the factory. Mine blew at like 30k, I had it rebuilt with those upgrade parts and it's been running fine for the last 100k.
So from personal experience, the first mod should be beefing the tranny if only a little bit. Because if you don't...you will be anyway.

Assuring you have proper fuel pressure is the first thing to do. Stock fuel pump pressure is generally too low already, but adding any kind of power device will only make it worse.

Injectors are a nice upgrade because they can remove some of the load from the injection pump, but an Edge EZ will be sooooo much easier. An EZ will add 60 hp and 180 lb tq and up to a couple mpg increase in fuel mileage. Injectors will be close to that in power and price, depending on what HP injector you get, but also involve swapping them out. So its up to you.

As for the automatic transmission, yes they are the weak link but typically a new torque converter to lessen slippage, a new higher pressure valve body, and tightening the bands will help tremendously. You just cant go wild on power and/or try to tow too heavy.

So in reality the order of upgrading these trucks is:
1) gauges.
2) aftermarket higher volume/pressure fuel pump.
3) auto transmission improvements or custom build.
4) then boxes and injectors.

Even if you have a manual transmission you cant add more than about 80 HP before the stock clutch slips.

So would I need to upgrade anything if I just put 50hp or 75hp injectors in.

If I understand what you just said..... Yes, you cant add larger injectors unless you at least change the fuel pump. The OEM fuel pump simply wont keep up.

Other than that, depending on what size injectors you get and how you drive and what you tow, its a crapshoot of reliability.

A better lift pump should be first on your list.
For injectors RV275 also known as Marine 300's should give you the +50 hp increase you are looking for. Bosch part number 0432193635 Get the genuine Bosch, I bought the generics first and tossed them. Lesson learned. Nice power increase and about the same fuel mileage.

If you're upgrading injectors, I would be prepared to do some tranny work at some point. It may not need it right away, but it will likely be coming.
