Do you trust your truck???

I bought my 2000 CTD Quad Cab 2500 3.55 5speed Ram with 70'000 miles on it.

I installed gauges and lo and behold, I needed a new lift pump.

Today I walk outside 2 days after doing some VERY light offroading and it appears I have a blown front seal (I checked the vent bottle, it appears to be coming from behind the harmonic balancer).

I LOVE my truck but I find I do not trust it very much, I don't trust it to seal the interior from water, I don't trust the Lift pump to run reliably enough to Keep my not so trustworthy VP-44 alive and I don't trust the frontend to track properly or keep the bearings alive.

Now I know many of you will say "sell it if you don't trust it". Well, I owe too much to not be in a world of hurt and not to mention the fact that I DON'T want another truck, I want a CTD, Not a Powerstroke or Duramax.

I guess I just feel cornered and fear that my truck will leave me stranded in the middle of the desert, atleast I know my Rock crawler will get me to safety dependably if I happen to have it on the trailer.

Luckily it is still under warranty and I have a few miles before that runs out.

So the Question is, Do you people TRUST your trucks on long road trips?

My early 2002 3500, has only10500 miles on it now. The DC 36k 36 month warrenty expires in May. Purchased an exteded warrenty when I purchased the truck in Nov of 04.
Time will tell.

Without a Doubt I trust it. Its like any other vehicle, you have good and you have bad. I just drive my CTD or like any other vehicle that I've had. If its gonna break its gonna break. There aint nothin you can do about. If you worry about it breaking, its probably going too. If you maintain it, keep up on the vehicle it will last. I only say this because I know it from personal experience and I work at a dealership and I see it everyday with people abusing there vehicles and expecting it too last.

I do question my 24v sometimes.........I do trust my 12v - it is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.........I cannot say that about my 24v.........Too many IP/LP/sensor issues......I have never had any issues to date with the P7100 on my 94.......It seems the more we depend on computers and electronic control, the more failures we encounter because of the added complexity......It is a fact of life these days

Trust mine completely....

Never left me stranded anyway............. Only time it failed to start was when a batter cable came off.

Drove the truck almost non stop 2500 miles in -30 temps, through blizzards and remote areas in the middle of the night and never though twice.

I agree, I often consider selling my 24V and buying a 12 valve, but I honestly love my truck.

I Take excellent care of my vehicles, regular oil changes, fuel filter changes, refill at the same diesel station and I am always doing checks.

This is the newest vehicle I have owned and I guess I expected a bit more for the money that I put down.

The dealer drove it out to the lot this morning and I was reminded of why I love it, it is a **** good truck at the root.

Well, I will get off of my soapbox and wait for the dealer to call.

Lets hope I don't get pulled over driving the rock crawler to work today!

I think the question should be more along the lines of, "Do you trust yourself?"

If you were getting ready for a 7000 mile round trip what would you do?

Nothing?

Oil & Filter Change?

Fuel Filter?

Lube?

Trans, Transfer Case, and Diff Service?

Check brakes and tires?

Check Coolant?

How about all of the above? I've driven circles around the country a few times in temps ranging from -20 to 110+ without a problem and this is what I check off the top of my head. If in checking these items I discover something wrong I'll dig deeper into it.

Sure things will go wrong, but if you are proactive with your maintenance it is less likely that your truck will let you down when you need it most.

Well, I am a big dumb stupid idiot.

It was the overflow bottle.

I would like to change my vote to "I completely trust my truck"

Atleast I got a steam cleaning out of it.

I trust my truck. The way I see it if it's not stock the chances of something going wrong are very high. Whatever goes wrong with it was brought on by me. I do wonder about the truck sometime when I get weird readings. But the stock CTD I have total faith in. So far, even with the mods on my truck, I have total faith in my truck.

I definitely trust my truck, but mainly because I have preventively fixed the major known issues. I have installed gauges, a track bar kit, a steering stabilizer, an aftermarket lift pump and had the tranny rebuilt. It's about as bullet proof as I can make it. I just pray for no accidents now.
