So far my troubles have been mild.

* Thermostat (sticking closed)
* Flat tire (Pulling trees - and found a stick)
* Rear pinion seal failed
* Front driveshaft replaced (clicking noises)

Believe it or not... These thing happened before 36K on the odometer... So far it still rolling strong! Love my beast. It gets me to Boise to pick up computer parts for jobs... And also takes me to work and home daily...

I would buy a second truck if I could afford it! As for the LP/IP problem I'm still knockin' on wood... And prayin'

Oh for a breather bottle mod check out my pics...so far no oil spillage from it... works good...

I've never trusted anything this much. Well, except for my folks. Only reason I don't trust it is because I've toyed with it and I'm afraid something I did is gonna break. But that wouldn't be the trucks fault.

I have gone to alot of effort to keep the truck trustworthy and follow this forms site religously, but I have mixed feelings about all of that. By following all the threads in this site I read about all of the problems with these trucks, and that tends to make me paranoid, but if they happen I have an idea about what to do about it. By doing most of the work myself I know alot more about this truck than any of the others I have had, but I also see it's weakness's. In the past I would drive my old beat up junk anywhere and didn't even think about it. Now I'm listening for noises the whole way. I guess I'm just feeling to old to be stranded.

Trust my truck? Yes it has always brought me home no matter what I do to it. I do carry an extra fuel pump with me. I don't want to be somewhere in Nevada and have the pump go out.

Yes i trust mine, i drove it to Spain and back, last summer a round trip of 4,000 miles in temps up to 44c. did a lot of off roading. it never missed a beat. Mind you i gave it a dam good service before we went, had no gauges then but do now, would have been intresting to see what the EGT's were in that heat.

I trust it 100%, all it does is run!!! I for one have been broke down in the middle of nowhere before with a Chevy, never again!!! And I tow through some pretty desolate places in the NW, so reliability is #1, towing a lot of weight fast is #2!!!! Good maintenance is the key.

I trust mine. It has had little go wrong with it. I had a lift pump go out which ended up taking out the injection pump. Covered under warranty. I have had one tailight bulb go out. I think that cost me about 2.00 to fix. I have had 2 fuel sending units go out as well. Havent fixed the second one. Actual repairs have cost me minimal(tail light and 1 fuel sending unit), bombs on the other hand have drained my wallet significantly. The grin on my face when I drive it, priceless. Most bombs have been with longevity, comfort or usefulness in mind. I can say that I do at least in the back of my mind worry about the lift pump but that is being taken care of shortly with a RASP just waiting for it to arrive.
However bacon oh boy. The wife is a vegetarian and I am a dyed in the wool carnivore. She wont let me cook bacon in the house (apparently it smells up the house) so I cook it on the grill occassionally.

It is good to hear all of the positive responses.

I would do the work myself but I am still under extended warranty.

I had the oppurtunity to ride in my buddys 98 12 valve last night, I had never been in a 12 valve and they are loud and smoke (He bought it recently, I think it may be slightly tweaked).

It was nice but I am sure glad I got the Manual Transmission.

Driving home last night I could help but put the hammer down a couple of times.

I figure to be a Cummins man forever.

Although I really love this truck,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I really don't completely trust it! Too many sensors and electronics along with steering and fueling issues.

I know I'll never be able to afford another NEW truck. If I was able to find a nice 12V,,,,, I'd go for it!

My 98.5 has 115K, replaced the LP. If I could get tires big enough so it would float I would drive it around the world, no questions or second thoughts!! Now if you are worried about electronics and such, go look at any gasser or the Chevy/Ford diesels. Our trucks are still VERY basic!!

Enjoy it and stop fussing-EVERY mechanical thing will eventually fail!

With gauges, I trust mine 100%. In 50,000 miles, i've had the check engine light come one once for an hour then go off, and had to replace a u-joint in the front driveshaft. Nothing else.

That oil leak behind the balancer could be a KDP problem. I hope not. Everyone says it stopped in 1999.
