Diesel Additive
Diesel Additive
What is the opinion on additives. I use the Stanadyne blue because it was recommended when my injection pump went. 2001 Dodge 4x4, 5.9 Cummins, 296,000 miles and counting.
HA ha you opened a can of worms....
I use Power Service Silver or White bottle because it is available just about anywhere I go. It has been going in my truck since they went to ULSD at around 55K miles.
Dad ran the stanadyne thru his MBZ 300SD for 285,000 miles before he sold it. That car ended up putting a million miles on the odo according to the second owner, who ran it around San Diego county as an airport shuttle. I guess he retired it back in 04 IIRC.
Back then you didn't really need lube for the IP, he ran it to reduce smoke output...
I would say any reputable additive that doesn't claim to do too much is a good option for the VP44....

yes can o worms,,
you will want to look into the companies that say good for diesel and fuel.
I'm not comfortable with certain lubes that say that. example sea foam. this has alcohol in it. okay for gas , but I dont like that for diesel.
anyway sorry I was going down the can o worms road.
what I have used depending on price. ashless 2 cycle (non synthetic)
power service sometimes pricey, stanadyne regular bottle sometimes pricey and my favorite I have a 10 gal jug of 100% bio diesel that i fill from a good source and put in 1 gallon per fill up.
dont know if its the place i got the VP from or doing this to the fuel but Im now just over 100k on my VP that has always been wire tapped with a fass pump.

Everyone has there preference, but I think it mainly comes down to what you can get. Sense Walmart is everywhere, I use their 2 cycle oil mixed with Power Service and a little new engine oil to make 2 full gallons. I use 1/2 qt per tank full in both my trucks. Sometimes I'll replace the motor oil with Diesel Kleen if I think it needs some.
Here is a link to a PDF to the study.

Fppf total power. Only one I've seen that does what it is supposed to do. Also ashless 2 stroke oil.
And nothing wrong with seafoam for its intended purpose, but not as an everyday additive.

FPPF - I've used this since the 80's back when GM switched from the 5.7L to the 6.2L.
Two stroke ashless TCW-3 - Add it before you fill up so it mixes.

I've used Power Service before, usually in the winter time. I've used 100% boidiesel before and liked that (smells good too!). The station I use now is 5% bio at the pump so I haven't been using any additive.
