Did My 32K Mile Tranny Service

What a job! I dropped the pan; replaced the filter and did the front & rear band adjustments.
First of all, never do this job when the ambient temp is 88°+ with 70% humidity. Secondly, trying to torque the lock nuts with a 3/8" drive torque wrench while holding the adjusting screw in place with a 1/4" drive ratchet/breaker bar is absurd. I had the appropriate 6 point crowsfoot sockets but ended up just doing it by feel with box end wrenches. Remember, I was working laying on my back on the garage floor and my truck is 2WD. I had room to work but it was close. After I completed the job, I drove the truck and everything seemed to be in order except that I got a little knashing/grinding when I moved the tranny shift lever between reverse and park and vise versa. This may be because I didn't pull back far enough on the shift lever. I hope it's not because the rear band is mis-adjusted. I followed the procedure in my OEM service manual exactly and I tried very hard not to the let the adjusting screw move when I tightened the lock nut. I would hate to have to drop the pan again and waste 7 & 3/4 quarts of tranny fluid and my time. Bottom line, next time I will drill a hole in the bottom of the pan and put in a drain plug and also forget the band adjustments. More importantly, I'll do the job in the winter or late fall.
