Defueling while towing?

While I was pulling my travel trailer this weekend, my engine seemed like it was defueling now and then while climbing hills. The motor would be running smooth then it would go almost dead for just a second or two then rev right back up and produce power. My Pocket Scan reads 2 codes and both are p0216. I have had these codes ever since my lift pump went out about a year ago. I had good fuel pressure all the way. The engine ran good on level ground and low rolling hills. Does this spell the end of my Vp or should I remove the Edge EZ before towing? Thanks for any input..

Injection pump is on it's way out. Mine did the exact same thing, and I had the exact same code... first it did it only once going up a hill when I laid into the throttle, then it started getting worse and worse to where I had to shut the ignition off and restart it to reset the electronics in the pump or something before I could get it to go instead of just acting like a lame dog in the middle of the highway.
