Death Code

Is there a way to erase these codes just to make sure, and see if they come back? I just want to make sure before spending $$$$$ My fuel pressure is 11#at idle and can pull it down 5# w.o.t. I had dead pedal twice, once last summer and once this summer pulling a long hill @100* with 7600# travel trailer. Both dead pedals were just a short time (maybe 1 second) and both times pulling travel trailer. Thanks for any info.
I got the code 1693 (companion code)?
PO216 (death code)?
PO217 (overheat)?

i believe if you disconnect your batteries for 30 minutes it will erase any stored codes in your truck.

1693 is a companion code basically saying you have a code
P0216 is the fuel injection pump timing <------ not good
P0217 is coolant temp too high

I don't think that battery disconnect clears the 0216. When I had mine I tried it and it did not clear it after I put a new VP-44 in. I took it to Autozone, and they are not supposed to clear codes but the guy there was a motor head and had his own code reader, so he let me use it to clear the codes. That cleared everything and the 0216 was not there anymore (knock on wood).

You can also buy a OBDII reader from walmart for about 80.00 and clear your own codes. You won't use it very often, but its great for getting free beer from your friends when they borrow it...

Autozone, parts America, checker here will let you use their code reader, they will not do it for you anymore (I guess to many claims their code reader caused the problem) but you can still borrow them and erase codes in the parking lot.

When I had my VP replaced from the dealer I got home and had the 216 code still. I freaked and went to the parts store, erased the code and it's long gone, knocking on wood.

Good luck.
