Did 2 '99's here earlier this year. One @ 70+k miles/stock all within spec. Other 90+k miles/heavily bombed a few just barely out of spec.

Modifications/power enhancements may shorten desired adjustment intervals.

Re:Dealer says no valve adjustment needed

I'd do the check if I had any phenomenon like vibration, sound or so, and do it every 100 000 km. Maybe it's a bit too often, but if they are not out of spec I leave them be. Mine was OK the last time, but I had several cars where the manufacturers interval was too long.
OK, they give you 100 k miles of warranty. How much will they care if anything goes wrong thereafter ?

AlpineRAM

PS I guess it's about the price of 20 valve adjustment checks to one broken valve seat. (Only if you are lucky)

Re:Dealer says no valve adjustment needed

A real good friend of mine is in charge of the mechanics at my local *******. He told me that the 24Vs dont need to be adjusted unless on major engine work. I had my 1st and 2nd adjustments done at the Cummins dealer in a local town. I found only slight adjustments were needed and will probably do my own next time. Everyone has an opinion and just go with someone you feel confident in and that will do what you and your pocketbook allows.
BTW- Even though my friend doesnt believe in the valve adjustment recommendation given by DC, I still have him over for steaks. You see, he is the one that listens to me go on and on about this TSB or that new thread that I heard the other day, and still picks up the beer tab every once in a while.

I would check the valves and adjust them to 8-17. Just my $.02 worth.

Doug
