"Dead Pedal"??
Hey fellas, got a question for you. Lately (not all the time) but every now and then, when I am pushing down on the throttle, my rig won't accelerate! It dont seem to make any noise, but all of a sudden something seems to 'kick' in and the truck finally accelerates. I drove it last night and had the pedal to the floor and the truck woulnt speed up!!! A fellow dodge buddy of mine suggested it might be the 'torque coverter not locking up.' Is this normal?? has anyone else experienced this?? I changed my oil (used Rotella 15W 40) changed the fuel and oil filter, and my rig is still doing it!! It seem to do it on hills!! Thanks for any help!!

You need to check your codes before you replace anything. On your '01, you can try the "key trick." Turn the key to run (not start) and back to off three times. On the third time, the codes will show in your odometer. It could quite possibly be your APPS. Some possible codes are P0121 (APPS) and P0216 (VP). My '02 did much the same thing and it was the APPS. The reset didn't work, but it may work for you.

Then my mileage came back on as normal. Does this mean I have issues?? What is the deal with the key trick?? I didnt see that in my owners manual. Do the Dodges only give codes when there is something wrong with the truck??

You got the baddy. You are about to be the lucky owner of a new VP44. The key trick isn't in the manual. A member here told me about it. Not all trucks will do it. Stay away from the NAPA (czech) VP44's. They are cheaper, but not very lasting or durable. Also, check your fuel pressure. You could have a bad lift pump.

Mine did the same thing about a month ago too. Except my dead pedal was only when traveling between 55-60 mph. I went home and reset the APPS, and I pulled the codes with the key method, and got the 1693 and 0216. Took it to the dealer who told me my lift pump was not within spec, and replaced it with the new in-tank set up. So far I've put about 800 miles with heavy towing for about 300 of those, and so far so good. I checked my codes, but nothing yet. I know this may sound wierd, but I am hoping to get the 0216 code again so I can get my VP44 done under warranty, I've got 9 mos or 31,000 miles left. Rick
