Dead ECM?

My truck started surging yesterday, got it back home and checked for codes. Pulled a 0123, 0343, 1475, 0606, 1286. Checked battery voltage and cleaned all the grounds. Both batts. checked @ 12.48 volts also checked the voltage from batts. to ground connections. All checks out good , the 0606 code says ecm failure. If thats the case do these things just die with no warning? Truck ran fine before I parked it for the holiday. Any one have a preferred place to get a replacement ecm if needed?

Just went through this with mine. Took it to the dealer for a reflash and he said the ECM/pcm died. He gave me the parts numbers as I wasn't buying his 1700 dollar unit and he wouldn't stand good for it. Ordered one from Autocomputerexchange.com got here and installed it and still no start. Dealer says , oh no ,it is the engine ecm! Needless to say I took it to a diesel repair shop and they put in an engine ecm off ebay and the old ecm/pcm and it runs fine now. Sent the new one back and they gave me a decent refund. So they have one in stock if it is the ecm/pcm on the firewall. But lesson learned , dealer techy is full of ****. Find a decent tech and have him run it with an ODB reader.

Anyone care to recommend a place to get a remanufactured ecm. Seems all of the ones that I have checked online have a long list of complaints about faulty products or lousy service if you have any problems with their products

Thanks for your reply, the company you mentioned is one that I have looked into. Have not decided who I will use, or if I will trade the truck in as is. Have a policy with vehicles that if they leave me stranded 3 times it's time to be replaced. Appears that the ecm problems are rare, a least on this site.
Thanks again

My son is a certified dodge diesel mechanic. he says the computer issues are rare for sure. They usually are killed by human error. he was livid when the local dealer killed mine. I told him if he lived closer I would not have had that problem. But luckily he has a access to a roll back wrecker and came and got it from my dip **** dealer and fixed it for me. Don't take anything to Athens , TX!
