You might be better to give you axle tag # to the dodge dealer so they can give you a new carrier, then the fun begins. Shimming the carrier bearings after you have them pressed off and back on. I just did one on a ford 1 ton ... PITA! Do you have the right amount of friction modifier in you fluid?

And yes, ive got the right amount of friction modifier in it
All you should have to do is rebuild it. and when your done put it in the same way, same number of shims on each side ad your good to go. If you put new gears or carrier (or mess the shims up) then you need to worry about setting it back up. ask the dealer ship if they have a rebuild kit, the should. I have seen the on e bay for around $70. I say go for it, I will be trying it as soon as i find a posi for my truck (know any one?) hope this helps
If the 80 is like any other Dana axle I've seen, the shims are sandwiched between the carrier and the bearings. So there won't be any re-shimming needed unless its sloppy.
I've heard you can add a few more clutch discs to the carrier to make it a bit tighter, but I don't have any personal experience with that.

I just changed from 4.10 to 3.55 and the shims werent real bad. Although if you are just wanting to rebuild the posi, you dont have to worry about them. Just rebuild your clutch plates and reinstall the carrier.
yeah im just wanting to rebuilt it. tearing into a rear end is no biggie. Even if i do screw up the shem's, it wont be that hard to figure out the lash and all that jazz. i just would like it to be tighter. Ill see what i can come up with for a rebuild kit. thanks guys!

Don't worry about rebuilding anything, pull the carrier out, take note of the shims, disassemble the LSD via the 8 or 10 bolts holding the two halves together. Then restack the clutches and plates alternating, clutch, steel, clutch, steel, and reassemble. It will be much more grabby, but not unbearable IMO. Only thing it will cost you: a tube of RTV and some diff fluid.

That's what I was gonna suggest. The TracLoks that come in the D80s are set up very "loose" and they usually don't lock up worth a (put profanity here). We were unlucky in that with the 24V motors also came tracloks in the D80's instead of the tried and true PowrLoks that came in the earlier trucks.
I have never been a fan of the TracLok for a rear axle application and went with a Detroit Locker in the rear of my truck. LOVE IT!
