cummins and 53 block replacement
I had them Cummins SW in Houston do my 53 block just over a year ago.
The initial bid was $2800 for a turn key job. I gave it back to them and told them to go over it with a fine tooth comb cause i was gonna get a laod to pay for it and didnt want to have to go back to the bank for more money. The sent it back to me with the same amout and said it was correct. I agreed and let them have it. A week later the call me and tell me my truck was ready and I ask how much was it. The told me it was going to $4800. I about blew a gasket. I talked to the service writer who gave me the original estimate and he said he did not foresee some things and that is the right price. I sent him the original estimate he gave me a week earlier and told him a few words.
Long story short he ate what ever overages and gave me my truck at the original estimate.
When I picked up the truck I had my wife drop me off while I paid for it and she could go on home with the youngens. After i pick it up I get in my truck and start it up and as usual I look at my gauges and watch my fuel pressures. No fuel pressure, zero, nada. I also turn the AC on and it dont get cold. I called the shop manager back to my truck and show him. Remember my wife has already gone home and it is about a 45 minute drive with traffic. The manager takes my truck back to the garage and starts troubleshooting. He first checks the levels of freon and tops those off them jumps the pressure switches to trick the ac in coming on without any luck. He tells me that he is going to have to keep my truck overnight to fix it. I dont mind that except my wife is already at home. I called her and told her she would have to come and get me and have to do it all over again the next day. Needles to say she was not to happy.
Well got it all back the next day to find there was a ground not making good contact at the block.
