Could this be signs of dieing ECM?

Had the 'check gages' indicator come on today ( yesterday now ), this followed a clunk sound. Looked down and all gages looked ok EXCEPT for the volt gage, it had swept clear to the left and was showing less than 8 volts, it appeared to be in the off position and not indicating any voltage. I pulled into a gas station and checked the belt and connections to the alternator with out shutting off the truck, everything appeared ok. I quick cycled the key off and on because I did not want the kill it, still had to get home, and the volt meter began reading ok again. I know the voltage regulator is ran through the ECM and am now worried about the thing just going dead, should I see about getting another or could this have been a fluke?

p1682 = low voltage and p0500 = speed sensor (loss of signal or low voltage at sensor), yep sounds like I lost voltage, but NO IDEA why, any Ideas out there?

Thanks in advance,
DuaneW.

test alternator output, check for 0ne or both batteries being bad, also the voltage regulation in the pcm might have taken a dump, if your batts and alt are good then u might want to just add an external voltage regulator. use the search function.

this thread is almost 2yrs old......

just searched for threads by DuaneWKKC and his last post was Aug 2009..

Things to check F552

Batterys (get load tested)
Alternator (get tested)
confirm grids are not on (relays stick on grids draw 190Amps, alt only outputs 130Amp)
Battery connections/cables

Hey, Im still around, just not doing alot of posting. Truck is still doing the same thing on a 'rare' occasion. Cycle key off/on and problem goes away. I do have some new ground straps to install, found the one between the bed and frame broke in two, but cant imagine that one being the cause, but I guess ya never know untill you try.

Good Luck,
DuaneW.
