Cost of new auto trans from Dodge?????

I may need a new or rebuilt trans soon. A trans from DTT is about $3500 plus shipping. I know everybody is going to say buy that and don't bother with a stock trans. But, that is not my question. My question is, has anybody priced a new trans from Dodge?? Once I know that then I will make my decision on which one to buy or to just go get another truck......

Ummm, do you have a phone nearby? If I was you I'd call a local DC dealer myself - or two.

Next phone call would be to the most reputable Tranny shop in your area for a quote. You never know, that could be where the dealer would send it.

Well, a brand new DC trans is $ 2400.00 but the guy couldn't tell me if that comes with a converter. I guess now I can dwell over which way I want to go. The price from phoenixhardparts.com seems pretty good except for the shipping I'd have to pay to get it here and then ship my core back to them...still not that bad though..

> I had to buy one last year on vacation. Completely stock with the torque converter around $3,850.00 installed. That was from a dealer in the little town of Cut Bank, MT. I couldn't shop around, we were trapped with no truck to pull at glacier national park.

I do not think you can buy a "new" 47RE from Chrysler any more. Last fall I was at the DTT shop in Abbotsford, BC and asked Kondolay what were the pallets of trannys he had. He told me that he got a good deal from Chrysler and bought a dozen or so new 47RE trannys. Chrysler was converting to rebuilts for the 47RE and eliminating "new" 47REs from stock/inventory. Replacement 47REs will be outsourced rebuilts in the future. Not rebuilt by Chrysler, but rebuilt by the low bidder.

It makes sense now that the standard tranny is now the 48RE, that is what they are currently manufacturing and would keep in inventory.

There may be some "new" 47REs in inventory at various places? I do not know how you would tell if you got a rebuilt instead of a new, unused 47RE.

Maybe you should ask what is the price of a 48RE and what is involved in putting it in an older truck.

Speaking from experience, when calculating cost of transmission repair - fix-it-now or wait-til-later, you may want to factor in the "pain & hassle" if it breaks a long way from home. More like preventative maintenance before it breaks rather than catastrophic repair.

I think in the long run, it may be cheaper if you plan for the truck to be OOC and make alternative driving plans during repair/replacement. Plus, you may have a better idea on who's doing the work - not necessarily the lowest bidder.

Bulabula, that's exactly what my plans are. I'm not one of those people who wait for their stuff to break before they fix it. If I hear a strange noise, I'm gonna find it or die trying. My next option was to look at the cost of the 48RE and see about putting it in my truck. I did ask the dealership about that but he had no info on if it would require any modifications or not. I hate talking to the dealership!! >
I'm gonna buy an inch/pound torque wrench today and get the adjustment of the bands perfect and if that doesn't work I'm gonna do something! I'll probably end up buying some type of trans and taking a couple of vacation days and putting it in myself. I have a friend with a big auto shop where I can work on it myself. I thought about just trading it in on a new truck but that will cost much more in the long run.....

BoldtsWagon, the guy at the dealership told me he had no listing for rebuilt trans but had a listing for a brand new one.

Don't put stock back in your truck, at least get a better stall convertor and have the trans. beefed up some. You will be amazed at how much better it can be. Don't be a cheap a** and do it right. Most of the performance trannys cost around 3500.00 w/convetor. This is not a bad price considering what all you get. You could buy the rebuild kit and do or have the performance parts installed in your case.
