Unhappy cooling problem???

hi guys, lately in the heat of the summer here{high 80s}ive noticed on a long hill or just playing around, when i step on her the pyro goes quite high which in turn puts my engine temp gauge up a little past the normal mark.then when i let of on her it goes down again,i just got a 5th wheel and plan on towing her this summer but am a little scared of over heating ona long grade.ive presure washed the rad and intercooler rads,my clutch fan seems to be ok,{can hear it when the ac is on}and the fluid is full.i checked with my local cummins shop about a cooler thermostat and they told me there isnt one available and the one i have is 108$can{70$us.}is that what they cost???any help would be great.oh ya it seems to do it more when the comp is on the higher settings giving the engine more fuel if that has anything to do with it.thanx dave

Boost readings ok? (assuming you have that gauge too). Also assuming you are running the elbow that came with the comp so you should be seeing 28-32 boost on hard pulls. If your radiator has been "polluted" by your puke bottle over the years, imho the only way to get the radiator clean is to yank it out. That may attribute to higher engine temps, but not sure how much of a bearing it would have on egt.

Dave, Something sounds way off!
I bgt a 180* T-Stat for my 02 from Cummins for thirty something...under $40.00 US. I can't find my receipt but I'm remembering it was between $30 and $40.00
Part # = 3967195. I know at least one 99 CTd running this T-stat also...has to fit yours too!

Made a big difference in coolant not getting hot. Have not seen over 190* in situations where I saw 200* to 210* anytime OAT was over 90*F.

Good discussion on this thread... https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...0&pagenumber=1
