Coolant
After you drain and flush the coolant how do you guys fill it back up?

I filled mine up and only got 4 gals in there by filling at the raditor. I got 3 gals of antifreeze and 1 gal of water, I am wanting to drain it this afternoon and refil with a 50/50 blend.

I have heard to back fill from the engine, is this done at the thermostat house? take the thermostat out and fill there. I just replaced the thermostat last week.

You also might not have drained the engine completely.
Sometimes its hard to get all 6 gallons out.

I would do what Jamie says, monitor your temps and let the air run out of the engine.

--Justin

Re:Coolant
Did a drain, Hooked a flush kit to the heater hose, back flushed it til clear water, drained it, then I used a compressor nozzle to blow the coolant out the heater core and got about 5 gal of 50/50 in......did a coolant test and the blend is down a bit because of the water that was trapped in the block......
Going to maybe next year, drain a gal and put it back from the new gal I have to bring the % back up.....

Re:Coolant
With pretty much any engine you will have an air lock behind the thermostat until it opens. Run the engine untill it gets to operating temperature and you will be able to get the rest in. If this is not possible to do in the yard, take it out for a spin around the block. If you refill immediately be extremely careful removing the radiator cap after riding around the block. While it should not have built any up, there may be pressure on the cooling system, depending on how big your "drive around the block" is. : You may want to just put it on there but not tighten it. This was any overflow will not just spew out, but will go into the overflow tank.
