Converter or Tranny?

Hey guys, ok heres the deal. I take off and first gear is fine. It shifts to second and rpms climb but truck is accelerating slowly unless I boost up quite a bit. It hits third and now it pulls quite hard again and fourth fine. Sometimes I turn and while turning it will overlap first to second. I have no history of truck or transmission replacements (if any) it has 270k and is a 2000 3500 dually. I plan on buying a tranny form one of the venders mentioned on the boards but just looking for some input before I spend the $! Thanks!

Try adjusting the front band. It is an external adjustment.

Yeah.... sounds like either the front band is worn or out of adjustment or there is massive internal leakage in the 2nd gear circuit.

After reading all the posts about adjusting the bands, am I to be nervous about blowing the tranny even if it is done exactly to specs? I will leave it a little "loose" as some have suggested on these boards. Still gonna do it right after work.

Main thing to remember is the torque is in INCH POUNDS, not foot pounds.

You need an INCH POUND torque wrench.
