I have a '02 2nd. gen W/ 138,00 miles, the trans. come out of a corner and stuck in first gear until RPM reached about 3200 and made a hard shift...... It was the last time that it would go into first gear, now I must start out in second gear regardless if I use the column selector or in drive. If I start out in drive it starts in third and either way 3 to 4 to o.d. and o.d. lock works flawless- A transmission shop told me that the code told them that the transmission wasn't communicating ? Fluid is fine and not burned and full to the line --- ANY IDEAS ????

They didn't tell me the code and when the pan was removed I was told that a lot of clutch pack material was present and a lot of metal shavings on the magnet but I got the truck used and have no idea if it had ever had the fluid and filter changed..

 

Check your grounds and take a look at the fluid.

Sounds like a fluid change is the least of your troubles. THe ground issue on the other hand is not that uncommon when the auto trans start acting up.

 

With new fluid and filter I got my first gear back and seems to shift better than ever but I don't trust it to last long !!!!
