it's the belt - i believe the fan stops turning a tad after the crank - causing the squeak.

if not, i know it's something along those lines because when i remove my fan in the winter the 'shutdown squeak' goes away.

don't worry - this is a perfectly normal sound you are hearing.

Perfectly normal as explained above. When I changed my belt, the squeek went away for awhile, but now it's back. If it bothers you, I hear that gatorback belts are best for eliminating the squeek.

As above. It is the alternator rotor interia that causes squeak. Engine stops on a compression stroke whenshut key off and compression tends to push crank backwards. This sudden change is more that belt can hold. The other cure is install a later model pulley that incorporates a one way clutch. Mini vans were the first to use if I recall. It saves fuel also.

IMO gator back belts dont always cure the problem I have one now with 7 months on it and its making noise just like the other cheaper ones. just a sound but not all the time. just check your belt if to you it looks like it needs replaced. crackes and etc. then do it. if not dont worrie.
