Code 1698???

Code 1698???
My friend has a 2000 2500 2WD, none of the gauges work and he has a code 1698. Is the ECM dead or what else might do this? The truck runs but is kind of rough.

P1698 - No CCD Messages recieved from PCM - Bus communication failure to PCM. A "Companion DTC" was set in both the ECM and PCM.
The CCD is the communications bus that carries communications between the ECM, PCM, FPCM, and all the sensors.
Thanks to Bart Timothy for this info. Previously he said it could be a connection issue.

Check the fuses in the box under the hood. I had a loose (not blown) fuse that caused my gauges, and apparently ECM, not to work. The terminals on the cartridge fuse were loose and making intermittent contact. Might be this easy.

i had a wire grounding out under the hood. check connections and look for wires rubbing on something.
