code 1689

no communication between the ecm and inj pump

well thats the code I get, but is it my VP?

truck runs fine except when you are really on it, then it cuts out and comes to an idle.

any clues?

You could try cleaning and reseating the connectors on the ECM and VP44, but I would bet that you have some overheating damage to the electronics in the VP44, not individually replaceable of course.

I tried the cleaning and greasing of the connections...any chance this is a wiring issue or is pretty much going to be the vp44?

From everything I've seen and heard, I'd have to say VP44.

Sorry.

Probably is the VP but try this anyway it cant hurt.

APPS Reset Procedure
Answer: This procedure has shown to help 24 valve ISB engines. It is basically teaching the fly by wire accelerator on these trucks to reread the position of the pedal and it's limits. Most complaints this will help with is poor acceleration, improper shifting, bucking in 5 and 6 speeds. Has been known to increase fuel mileage in some instances.

1. Set parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery cables on both batteries
3. Turn ignition key to run(to drain any remaining capacitors)
4. Let truck sit for 30 minutes( this is the recommended minimum)
5. Return ignition to OFF position
6. Reconnect both batteries and secure, not a timed event
7. Turn key to run position(not start) and depress accelerator pedal slowly all the way to the floor
8. Allow pedal to return to top position slowly
9. Turn ignition switch OFF
10.Release parking brake

Odds are it's a wiring problem. This is the hardest problem to find. I believe that it will finely causer the injector pump to go out.

It could be voltage loss in the wiring, bad ecm, bad pcm and even a bad injector pump.

Good luck finding it. If you find whats wrong would you let me know. This is what seams to be the worst problem to find on these trucks.

Man that is not what I wanted to hear....funny thing is I pulled my trailer about 700 miles and the first 350 it was its normal self...cutting out and throwing a check engine light. The second 350 it hasnt done it at all and now it is runing great??? I hate wiring issues but I hate $1400 inj pumps worse.
