Is the clutch slipping?
Is the clutch slipping?
My truck has started to do the following and only in 4th & 5th gears:
if I try to accelerate rather quickly while in 4 or 5th gear, either when shifting from 3rd to 4th or from 4th to 5th or even when just cruising and maybe accelerate to pass, the engine revs like it is in neutral for a bit then goes on. It is almost like the drive train takes a bit to catch up with the acceleration. Does this sound like the clutch is slipping or is there a linkage that needs to be adjusted? I bought this truck in 2000 with about 58K on it and the clutch pedal has always seemed a little softer than other similar trucks that I have driven. Also, the clutch was actually replaced less than a year after I got the truck. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
CR

Sounds like your master/slave cylinder assembly may be leaking down. They are notorious for seeping where the push rod assy enters the master cylinder. Check under your dash where the rod assy goes thru firewall. Pull back boot (under dash) and look to see if there are signs of fluid seepage. If you find any, go to the dodge dealer and buy the whole master/slave/hose assembly from dealer and replace. You will not need too worry about bleeding anything because the lines are pre charged with fluid. I tried to replace individual parts once, but the sum of them equalled the price of the entire assy and it was impossible to bleed the individual cylinders.
Good Luck,
Gary

sounds like classic clutch slippage to me.......'
How many miles are on the clutch???
If you are seeping fluid from your hydraulic clutch setup somewhere your fluif will be down in your master cylinder. Have you lost any???
