Cleaning MAP and IAT sensors

I would like to try cleaning these two this weekend and would like to know what to use to clean them. I don't wanna ruin the sensors by using the wrong stuff. Also, where is the IAT sensor located? I've been told its right behind the MAP sensor, but I looked and didn't see it. Did I just not look hard enough? Its kinda hard to tell with all those wires and plugs hanging there in that spot.

I have read to use carb cleaner, personally i didn't have carb cleaner around so i used starting fluid. It seems to be working fine.
The IAT sensor is several inches to the rear of the block from the fuel filter. It is a real bear to reach. I think its a 13/16 inch deep socket. The IAT looks very similar to the MAP. Look to the very back of the block. You will probaly say something like ''could cummins have made it anymore difficult to access?'' I sure did.

Ok thanks. I was worried about Carb cleaner eating any kind of coating off the sensors that they might have. I'll give it a shot.

It leaves a pretty good film. I'd try to use something that will evaporate. Carb cleaner, brake clean are good ideas, but starting fluid is scary though!

Yeah i figured somebody would disapprove of my actions! Why is that a scary thought? Too flammable or too corrosive? You have to admit, starting fluid does evaporate quick.

Like i told Dr. Evil. I need to get into Evil medical school and drop out of The school of Hard Knocks.

Just the flammability of it! It doesn't take much of a spark!

On my truck, the fitting required a 1 1/16th" deep socket. FYI, the IAT sensor required a 13/16" deep socket. I bought my 1 1/16th at O'Reilly's for $7.95. I think the local Sears store had them for $12 or $13.

I tried an 1 1/16th and it barely made it on the plastic not even close to the actual nut part.

I indicated in my response that you need to use a deep 1 1/16th socket. That's what I used on my 02 and it fit perfectly. Do a search using Cleaning MAP Sensor and see what else pops up.
