CI or CJ oil

I notice its getting harder to find the ci oil as everybody is going to the new cj. Even the wal mart supertech 15/40 oil thats been ci is now cj at our wal mart. How big a deal is it to stay with the ci oil with our older trucks?
Someone said John Deere dealers have 15/40 diesel oil that is still rated ci. Has anyone used this oil? Thank you, Rod

CJ is required for all engines required to meet EPA 2007+. It will do no harm to older engines. I have read multiple articles in trade magazines an use CJ Rotella for my fleet of class 8 trucks rangeing from 2004 to 2007.

using ci oil in a 6.7 cause the dpf to plug up. to keep from ci oil getting on the market for light trucks and cars with dpf they stopped packaging it in quarts and one gallon containers but is easily available in five gallon pails and 55 gallon drums and is cheaper than the cj. when i was at the distributor last week to pick up two drums and four pails of delo 400 the only thing they had was ci in both delo and rotella. i have never had to use any cj. the john deer oil is as good as the rotella or dello. i do have a 2009 vw jetta tdi that i use 5w-40 rotella t synthetic cj4 in

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
It is not important who makes JD's oil. The contract could be changed tomorrow. JD specifices what they want in additive package and refined stock. It is a quality product that protects engines used in FAR more brutal service than your Cummins will ever be subjected to.

dozer, your last sentence hit the nail on the head in my books.
I have checked with the JD dealer in our town and they have ci oil. I will be getting my oil from them in the future.

Where can a guy off the street easily buy 5 gal pails of CI+4?
For Pre 07, that is the ticket. Knowing where to get Valvoline Clasic PB would be ideal, as it was also the Cummins endorsed standard. Nothing wrong with Delo or Rotella either.
What really bothers me is regular motor oil is going for $4/quart. Seems like yesterday it was $1. So, I watch the Pepboys oil slaes.

Chevron for Western parts of the country, Exxon/Mobil for Eastern parts. I just did a change with JD Plus-50 and lost some MPG from Valvoline Premium Blue CJ-4.

yes u can use CJ-4 oil in the older trucks, but that doesn't mean it's the best idea or even a great idea.
Support the CI-4plus vendors and put a better lubricant into your truck.

Did you spill some on your right foot - so it got heavier?
Was that PB Extreme in there before?
