Check valve for VP44
Check valve for VP44
There has been a lot of talk about this check valve lately. Can anyone provide a link where to purchase one and a R and R of this valve? This seems to be fixing many failed VP's and fluctuating fuel pressure readings. Obviously the pumps are good and this simple $35 part is fixing the hard starts, no starts and fluctuation fuel pressure readings.
Thanks
Thanks
Best place to get it is from Cummins. Dealer wants twice as much for it. Expensive shipping, I guess.
There is an internal pump inside the VP, so the fuel isn't going to freely flow from supply to return line, which is why fuel pressure isn't affected by a bad overflow, unlike the 12v.

I changed my check valve this morning and now when I shut off engine, the fuel pressure gauge takes about 45 seconds to drop to zero, unlike before it dropped to zero as soon as engine was shut off. I am going to hit the highway and warm it up and see if she will start when warm now.

VP lessons:
I lost vp in Texas in Nov. 05 and truck did not run right since. Took vp out and sent it back to II for testing, checked out perfect, I had them return it with new check valve and now the truck runs correct.
At 1900 rpms truck would start to vibrate and would get worse all the way 3200
If the tranny was in lock up it was really bad, EGTs were very hot and power was way down at upper rpms.
What happens is that as your rpms go up the pistons in the pump get incomplete filling of fuel and so each cylinder gets a different fuel charge (vibration) and the advance piston gets an incomplete charge and does not advance the timing (heat) and last but not least when you shut the truck down it may be difficult to start(no fuel in pump it bled down)
The vp has its own pump built in and it pushes the fuel into the cylinders of the pump. If the check valve on the outlet is not working properly it may have problems.
I was also told that different pumps react differently and they don't know why?
The person who installed my pump had used my old check valve on my new pump and thats what caused all of my problems
it cost me 300.00 to learn this.
The interesting thing about it all is that the old vp had none of these problems it failed because some idiot dumped a load of unleaded fuel in the diesel tank at the station
.
Hope this helps.

My wife say's that if didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any luck! I'll take no luck, Please!
