Check tranny lines!!!

Just a note: A while back I had to replace one of the aluminum transmission lines. On my truck (and I'm guessing others of similar models) the lines make contact where they cross between the oil pan and transmission pan. 100K miles of vibration and shifting caused one to wear a hole in the other making a big mess and and the truck wasn't going anywhere. I replaced the line and put a plastic hose between the two to keep it from happening again. Just giving others the heads up in this design flaw and check your's before its too late!

When Dave Goerend and boys did the tranny upgrade on mine they did the
same thing. Put 2 pc of rubber tubing they had split, and strapped them on
the lines where they came together. Said it's a common problem.

There are supposed to be to plastic clips that separate the lines..... however, the plastic clips tend to loosen up over time and vibrate on the lines and can wear holes in them. The best thing to do is to take the plastic clips off and toss them. Split a short piece of 1/2" fuel line and slip it over one of the lines and then zip tie the lines together.

Oh... BTW... at first glance the lines look like aluminum, but they are in fact steel. Hold a magnet up to them if just don't believe it..

Are these lines metric or standard? they are bigger than 3/8 but dont look to quite be 1/2" I could be mistaken though.

I had that happen on my 95 gasser 2500 ram. It did it at about 110000 miles and it left a nasty mess under the truck and one the cars behind me when it decided to leak. I had new lines replaced and put some rubber in between so it wouldn't happen again. Now on this truck i did the same thing when i bought it.

My bro-in-law's did the same thing this weekend. He's replacing the lines tonight and going to put some rubber hose over the lines to protect them.

same thing happened here, i notice tranny fluid leaking real bad one day, and pulled it in the shop and an hour later (they are a bugger to weave thru there especially when everything under the pickup is covered in oil), i was back on the road
