ok thanks, for posting the part numbers, i hadnt had time to look up anything!

thats dang expensive! id rather go with a stock cummins vp44 if i had to pay that for a Deere pump.

But still the guy who sold em to me had sold 70 deere vp44's for $700 and under. some guys had got em for $500 for buying 10+, heck i even heard for $300, but that was before he sold out on the pumps,

As i stated, he bought stuff for $100,000 at a closing parts store.

added a few more pics, of part numbers

I must say....I'm still surprised that the Dodge ECM is playing well with the electronics of JD VP44. Also, I wonder how well chips will play with these? I was under the impression these different companies using cummins motors w/ vp44 were all using individual tunes on the electronics part of things...

Different ISB applications certainly do have some very different softwares in the VP44 ECU's....not to mention different plunger sizes and operating pressures depending on OEM power requirements and apllications. This could cause a potential performance loss when the Cummins ECM tries to communicate with the different VP44. I wouldn't do it since I'm not willing to assume the risk of shelling out money to get an inferior pump for our application.

interesting...nice to know that folks are looking into alternative sources...the only 2 that I've heard which are popular are mwfi and blue chip

Here's a question.

Is there a source that our engines were used in which had more power stock than we do?

Something with a bigger plunger, or higher flow capabilities?

these are acceptable part #'s for 98.5-02 vp's 027 being the most recent.

Bigger plungers doesn't = bigger OEM rated power. Softwares and injection pressures have just as much to do with power differences. Meduim duty, RV and marine applications had 275 and 300 hp 5.9 ISB's versions.....couldn't tell you how they get to the different power levels exactly but I know for sure different injectors are used in anything past 235 hp. 245 hp and 275 hp ISB's both used their own application specific injectors for sure.

I think it is safe to say Bluechip probably has the best thing going for replacement VP's with them using the Fedex based ECU (much more robust PC board)....but even they had problems with the Fedex ECU in the Ram application. Not certain, but I believe they made their own software modifications. Not cheap but likely the best and certainly proven.

As far as I know, all REMAN VP44's come with the sturdier circuit board. Keep in mind though, that this could entirely be internet gossip. I just remember someone in a thread a few months back making a reply along those lines, and IIRC they were a reputable rebuilder and/or source of VP44's for our application.

Well, I have no way to verify so I won't "fuel" the rumours. From my first hand experience, most any reman VP44 does nothing to replace the VP44 PC board *unless* it is tested and found to be defective....and they seem to have little to no idea of the spec or origin of the replacement ECU's as Bosch *appears* to keep tight control of that. But know this: There are many different VP44 ECU specs depending on the application with countless revisions over the years. I have yet to hear anyone suggest that there is another application that meets the Fedex spec and experience supports this since I think we have all heard of countless Vp44 ECU failures from reman pumps. Take it for what it is worth but I think a phone call to Bluechip is probably worth it since they appear to know more about the VP44 ECU differences than anyone else I have come across and they will only use the Fedex ECU.

I found this to be true when I was shopping for my recent VP purchase. I questioned MWFI and Pensacola Diesel about what the replaced. MWFI said they replace all electronics in every pump, and Pensacola Diesel "tests" the electronics. I purchased mine from Diesel Performance Parts Inc. here in Nashville. They get their pumps from a re-builder in Illinois that replaces the electronics, housing, and a bunch of other stuff inside I can't remember. So far so good.
