if you cant hear that buzz the lp if faulty... The LP must run even with air in the lines. for bleeding the lines unscrew the Banjo bolt(but not remove it) on the inlet line on the VP44, crank but not start(the LP priming fuel for the famous 20sec!) and see for fuel leaking from the unscrewed banjo bolt
I done this 2 times on my 99 and it start without any probl

keep us updated! ROB

You might check for codes. Turn your key on-off-on-off-on........... then write
down any codes. The Airtex sounds like a better LP, id you need one.

have you check if the lp run?
the VP is on the driver side of the engine under the APPS assembly..in front of the fuel filter, follow the fuel line came out of the canister... or follow injector lines..

the lp ran fine, like you said 10-20 seconds,
and i had no throttle response again, it finally came back after running for about five minutes and driving 2 miles???
do you think i have air in my lines?
it starts fine though, hardly any cranking necessary?

I can not fathom that changing a fuel filter would damage a LP (lift pump). If it ran good before a filter change, I can't see it being the problem. It is possible but oh so remote.
The problem started with the filter change. Did you use a higher micron filter that might be starving the engine? If you pushed dirt through into the IP (Injector Pump), you might have clogged an injector or damaged the IP (VP44). When this "no throttle thing" is happening, I would suggest cracking each of the injector lines to see if you have fuel flow at each injector (loosen the nut where the line connects to the injector). If you have fuel to each of the injectors, it still could be the IP, but more than likely you have a clogged injector or two. There is injector cleaners out there you can buy over the counter, but to get the good stuff, the industral strenght, you'll have to go to a garage that works on diesels.
The garage can take each injector out and hook them up to a pop-off testor. This will tell you if an injector is bad. They can also check the pressure at the injector to tell you if the IP is good. This may be your best course of action.

I think the lift pump might be a little weak, and you let air into the system. If it's running well now I don't think it's still the problem. Air in the system works it's way out if the lift pump is good, and the engine runs for a couple of minutes. If you don't have a pressure gauge on the low pressure fuel supply, GET ONE. At least get the low pressure light kit. It's the single best way to protect your VP44.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Just because you hear the lift pump buzz doesn't mean it's putting out fuel pressure. I have had them make noise while not putting out pressure.

Well, I changed the fuel filter on my 24V 98.5. Waiting for daylight so that I can better see what I'm doing. Did the 20 second prime twice,I did not hear any buzzing. Did a key crank for about 15 seconds, nothing.

Will have to check to see if I plugged my water sensor back in. Is the pump in the tank? Will the sensor not plugged in cause it not to start?

Thanks,
Dave3500

Crazy! Well at least for me it is.

If you have any knowledgeof tooling you could do it yourself and save 1400$.

I did and glad I didnt pay. They were charging me $380 labor and me buy the pump at $1050 w/exchange.
