Exclamation Changed Fuel Filter: Now that I've got air....

I did this once before on our truck, changing the fuel filter, and didn't have any problems starting that time. This time, didn't have quite enough fuel to fill the canister ( d'oh, didn't know about priming!) so engine started and then died, won't start since. So, I read up on bleeding air from the fuel supply line by the banjo bolt. Question 1: How loose should it be?! Will not loose enough keep air from bleeding out? Question 2: Will loosening too much such that the bolt comes off temporarily cause air to go elsewhere that needs bleeding? Got more fuel and filled the canister all the way, tried again, no start, went back to bleeding. Question 3: How many "bumps" are we looking at here and how many do you then decide you have to move on to the high pressure side of things?! This is what I get for trying to do this when my husband was away, though he's really not much better at these things than I am!

Crack open injector lines 1 and 3 just a little bit right on the head,crank engine over and hold moderate throttle and it will fire. then close up the lines and it will smooth out in 1 minute or so

I should clarify....I have bumped the engine 20 + (lost count!) with no fuel coming out at the banjo bolt - should I proceed to the high pressure side, or do you only do that when you do get fuel at the banjo bolt but it still won't start? What more can I do to get fuel at the banjo bolt?

Do you hear the lift pump running when you bump the starter? If the lift pump is working and you have the bango bolt loose at the VP44, you should have lots of fuel in about 5 seconds. Make sure its the bango bolt on the line coming from the fuel filter. You only have to loosen the bango bolt about one turn (less actually but one turn will be fine).

If you bumped it that many times and still don't have fuel at the banjo, it's time to replace the lift pump.

Yup, I could hear the pump running its 25 seconds but no fuel coming out, and also none coming out of the #1 line I cracked, so clearly the pump isn't pumping correctly!

So, on to the next topic....got an OEM 4090046. How to install it? I'll go check the threads on that pump...
