catalytic converter
catalytic converter
talked to a man today with a 99 cummins who swears up and down that after he removed his catalytic converter (ran straigt pipes) his fuel mileage increased 8 mpg and said he rewad somewhere on a dodge forum that someone else who had done the same thing had passed a state emissions check.
can this be right?

catalytic?????? my 98.5 and every 24 valve that worked with does not have a cat , they have a resonater (a sound killing device) however i dont know about the CA models. As far as the mileage goes ...my 98.5 got worse (.5 -1 mpg) all of the other trucks (15 or so) that i put a straight pipe in didn't change the milage at all ... but they sounded good !!!!
My 95 and my 01 has a catalytic convert on it of some sort. When you look inside it has that honey comb stuff inside. Thats what I always thought it was anyways
I was wrong once before but found out I was mistaken. hehe

i dont know how many versions of the ram are out there the trucks i spoke of are from texas , most of my 12 valve buddies had cat's ... but none of the 24v's did
may just be diff versions , i dunno

I just had mine replaced with a 4" silverline system and mine had a resonater (looks like a small muffler ahead of the big muffler). Here is a write-up of this (it is in the 5th paragraph):
