If I were to remove the catalytic converter on my truck, would it mess with the backpressure bad enough to make the performance of the truck drop, or is removing it completely fine.

 

Do you have a California model? As far as I know the '99's didn't have a catalytic converter.

your right, it doesnt. my bad, I was just talking with some friends, and i was told not to mess with the cat, but if it doesnt have one i dont have to worry.

 

Your 99 shouldn't have a cat unless its a cali truck. Your truck should have a resonator and muffler on it. Take it off if you want to, you aren't going to hurt the engine by straight piping it. Your turbo already provides enough back pressure for the engine.

 

The problem occurs when you go to a pipe that's too big that slows the exhaust down, has nothing to do with back pressure.

 

Unlike a NA platform, any ammount of backpressure is parasitic for a turbocharged application. If anything youll see a slight decrease in the ammount of time it takes to spool up (this is good).
