Carter Campaign Pump?????

Can someone pass on the Carter Campaign LP part number if they have it. In a post awhile back it was posted as PN# 4090046. I called a Rush Trucks Center and that part must be the Cummins Stock LP because the price was about $210.00. I was hoping to get a Carter for about 70.00.

Thanks for any help.

That's the right part number for the Cummins Campaign pump. I got mine at a Cummins parts dealer for $64. Try another place. This Campaign pump is supposed to be for sale only to busses and emergency vehicles, not Dodge trucks. So the parts guy is supposed to ask you for the VIN number for the bus you're working on, some do and some don't (mine didn't care). Don't tell them what you're working on, just say you want one of these pumps. If they ask what its on say a school bus. $210 is the price of the same fuel pump for Dodge trucks, I'm not sure if the two pumps are mechanically identical or not, some say yes others say no. Good luck.

That's the correct #. Keep calling around. I had heard of some dealers asking for a VIN to sell the part, not the one I went to. They didn't even blink, ordered the part, charged my card, I had it in three days.

The part # looks correct to me. I just bought 2 of them for Cummins in Arlington , TX for $45 a piece +tax. Works great. Great pressures. They didn't ask me what it was for. Just went in and asked for campaign pump with that part number....

Thanks for the info and I'll keep looking. I didn't tell the guy it was for the 2500, he just gave me that price with no questions.

Does this pump replace the stock L-pump or is this a helper pump that sould be mounted on the frame back by the tank?

It's a direct replacement for the stock lift pump. The campaign involves school buses and emergency vehicles. Supposedly the newer pumps have an internal bypass that lets the IP pull fuel through the LP in the event the LP fails and the rotor hangs. The other part of the campaign is that they included a fuel pressure switch that you can wire to a light to let you know when the LP has died.

The pump is the same as is available for the Dodge trucks, the only difference is the price cut for the vehicles involved in the campaign.

I just installed a campaign pump Sat. It actually runs better than the OEM. My stupid electric pressure gauge stops at 13.5 pounds and stays there WOT or idling until shutdown down. I don't know what the pressure is running, but it runs stronger!
Good pumps!!!

Back Again...
Thanks to everyone on this thread for this LP info.
The local Cummins store wanted $152+tax and didn't have
the pump...
i called Arlington and have 2 of them on the way ($64.90 per)
What's the big difference between this pump and the typical LP? Will this one last any longer than the original Carter LP?

Maybe, maybe not. The only difference that I heard of between this pump and the original was that this had an internal bypass so it wouldn't block fuel flow in the event of a failure. But I never heard of any updates to make it more reliable.

I would make sure that it does have the internal bypass. Had one on my wifes 2000 when we bought it and it did not have the bypass..so when it quit working it just shut the fuel off. It did it once and that was enough...off it came until I put the FASS on it..
Then to make matters worse the previouse owner had scotch lock'd a wire on to the stock lift pump harness to trigger the push pump. That wasnt the bad part..what was the scotch lock cut thru the harness wire so the stock pump quit also.. Had to repair the wire which was not fun......

One could only hope..!
You would think by now someone would be rebuilding/improving the design of the piece of crap.
I've come to the point of changing mine every 75/80K, just to avoid the grief of having to deal with replacing thr IP.
Keeping my fingers crossed,
